Earl Nightingale

Earl Nightingale (March 12, 1921 - March 25, 1989) was, in my opinion, one of the great American motivational speakers and authors, known as the “Dean of Personal Development.”

Lead the Field” is a series of six discs comprised of mp3 audio tracks for 12 separate sessions.

The following has been taken from the Nightingale-Conant web-site:

“Hundreds of thousands of people have profited from the wisdom and savvy of Lead the Field!

In fact, it has often been referred to as the “Program of Presidents” because so many top executives have incorporated Earl’s guidance and wisdom into their management philosophies.

When you listen to this landmark program you’ll be awestruck by the simplicity and timelessness of Earl’s words and ideas.

  • Double your mental capability
  • Recognize and easily overcome the biggest stumbling block to high achievement
  • Dramatically improve your luck by changing one simple thing
  • Make success unavoidable with an easy 3-minute-a-day exercise
  • Assess your potential worth, and start increasing it now

Lead the Field has arguably changed more lives and created more millionaires than any other program Nightingale-Conant has produced.”

The “Lead the Field” audio series constitutes a wealth of Earl Nightingale’s wisdom and can be played over and over again. In addition, several of his videos are available on YouTube, including The Strangest Secretand The Boss, and are well worth watching as well.

The Law of Attraction has been widely quoted throughout the Internet, largely on the basis of the release of “The Secret” and the books by Esther and Jerry Hicks. At the most extreme end of the Law of Attraction continuum, its advocates would have us believe that, in order to realize (or manifest) our hearts wildest desires, all we need to do is to visualize that desire and release it to the Universe in order for it to manifest into our lives. » Read the rest of the entry..

One of the most powerful tools we have available to us in Personal Development is Creative Visualization. However, Creative Visualization extends well beyond Personal Development in terms of applications and benefits, representing a powerful tool for Art, Architecture, Entertainment, Literature, Science, Technology, Philosophy … and so on. In fact, it is hard to conceive of a field in which Creative Visualization could not be or, more accurately, is not being utilized to advantage and represents one aspect of our Greatest Asset …. our Mind. » Read the rest of the entry..

The Confidence you have in your “Self”

By definition, “Self-Confidence” is the confidence you have in yourself which, in turn, is the result of a complex combination of mental attitude, life experience and/or circumstance, genetic attributes and social and physical environment as they pertain to “Self”.

Some aspects which contribute to Self Confidence, like genetic attributes, manifest themselves as physical attributes which society may deem as undesirable, contributing to a possible loss of Self Confidence. Mental Attitude, which derives from thoughts and beliefs pertaining to oneself, may or may not be accurate, depending upon other aspects of character such as Self Esteem. Finally, social and physical environment are dependent upon the specific setting in which you find yourself at any given point in time. » Read the rest of the entry..

Or is it “Defeat”!

Is it simply an issue of semantics, or is suffering a Failure more significant than a Defeat. More importantly, have you suffered a Setback, a Defeat or a Failure? Defining it properly and seeing it in its proper perspective is critical to subsequent outcomes.

The most important aspect is to determine whether:

  1. You can learn anything from the situation (whether Setback, Failure or Defeat) so as not to repeat it,
  2. You can recover and move on,
  3. You will allow the situation to make YOU a Failure or can you successfully separate YOURSELF from the SITUATION and move on toward your goals?

Affirmations are simple statements of fact or desired intent (a goal or goals) repeated on a regular basis as a form of mental programming. The Coué Method was, arguably, the first example of the use of affirmations for improvement of health using Autosuggestion (alternatively considered a form of self hypnosis). As originally formulated, the Coué Method consisted of the phrase Every day, in every respect, I am getting better and better”. It has since been revised to Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better”.

In his book Self Mastery Through Conscious Autosuggestion, Emile Coué claims, from his own experience, that “Every illness, whatever it may be, can yield to autosuggestion … I do not say does always yield, but can yield, which is a different thing”. » Read the rest of the entry..

I was just reading Robert Pirsig’s “Lila: An Inquiry Into Morals“, the sequel to Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance, in which he clarifies his “Metaphysics of Quality” and came across his description of the moral and social chaos accompanying the transition from the Victorian Era to post World War I society, from the change in status of the “intellectual”, from “… social domination of intellect to intellectual domination of society …” I believe it represents a good description of the context in which many of the books discussed on this blog, and the accompanying Integrated Success Program web-site, were written. » Read the rest of the entry..

A short presentation by Alain de Botton on success.

He first discusses the idea of a “meritocracy” in which members in society are graded according to merit. Those who have the merits to be successful, become so while those who don’t have such merits are not as successful, or even fail. » Read the rest of the entry..
